Leland Fishing Report August 26, 2011- After the wind

She was quiet, but happy.

I don't post many fish board pics, but today, why not?

After a week of wind it returned to more normal fishing for this time of year. We headed out around 6:00 a.m. which is about right for late August and got to the island in early light. At first I marked lots of fish and they wouldn’t bite, but after a bit of adjusting and the fish turning on we caught these about 90-100 feet down off the north end of north Manitou. The best fishing for us was near the village, but guys caught fish all up and down the island.

Spoons continued to dominate with silver blue/green and silver w/green patterns working for us, although I’m sure other boats with their own favorites worked well too. I hope you are out there tomorrow chasing these fish.

  1. Bill, looks like a 25+ lb king in there… nice fish.

  2. We didn’t weigh the big one, but the girl in the picture ws pleased when she caught this fish. I liked her, she really listened and did a nice job handling the king to the net.
