August 15, 2010 Leland Salmon Report

The bottom fish is a cisco, a very rare fish to catch while trolling for salmon, at least around Leland.

Here is a sample of the 11 fish we caught this morning.

I really like it when people show up early. It gives them an extra edge on the fish. This morning these guys from the Traverse City area were waiting in the dark for me and we shot out of Leland Harbor within minutes. We went to the north end of the island and started geting hit right away. We didn’t get them all in, but we got enough to make for an interesting morning. The surprise was a cisco, which is very rare to catch around here.

The wind was forecast to blow hard and it did before the morning was over. We trolled south and caught fish along the protected side of the island. The wind was pushing the temperature down and we finished up catching fish down 115 feet. I suspect it will go deeper than that as the wind is slated to blow hard tomorrow too.
